Orientation– Learners and budding interior designers from various institutes and universities visited Skill Pavilion for Knowledge Tour & Orientation Session to get more exposure and a better understanding of the opportunities in the industry.
Scavenger Hunt- Learners were given a list of materials/machines with some questions and cheat codes. The task was to collect pictures and videos of the given items in the list and get the answers to the questions. The aim of the activity was to enlighten learners about the materials, tools, machines, and companies.
Try Your Skill– Learners were made to solve a wooden puzzle or assemble a modular furniture cabinet to test their logical and thinking abilities.
– The GOI will be launching the Leaning Management Portal (LMS) for providing free access to job role knowledge to learners.
– In line with the government mandate, FFSC is committed to providing skilling, upskilling, and multiskilling opportunities for learners through introducing e-content courses.
– The e-content course includes Learning modules for each NOS along with interactive assessment methods to provide a blended mode of training.
– India Wood 2022 was used as a platform to shoot such content and also to orient the industry about various avenues in the Furniture and Fittings Sector.
– FFSC is collaborating with various Industry Experts and Stakeholders to aggregate the content and utilization of the same towards standards development and effective training delivery through an in-house production team.
– FFSC in coordination with various educational bodies like AICTE, CBSE, etc. is collaborating with various schools and colleges to integrate the vocational courses through NEP 2020.
– Various universities/ institutes like IWST, KIET, CKCET, Srishti Manipal, etc. have collaborated with FFSC and adopted its curriculums for the skill training purpose of the learners.
– The integrated modules will benefit the students with job role-specific skill sets to make them industry-ready.

In line with its fundamental objective of developing Job Role-specific training modules, FFSC has commenced the development of 4 new Occupations:
– Furniture Designer
– Machine Operator
– Cabinet Maker
– Joiner
The First Cut draft of the Functional Matrix would be prepared soon with the help of Industry Experts.
FFSC will be adopting ITIs and restructuring the curriculums to provide correct and skilled training. It has initiated the work of developing its first Skill Academy Model for training and assessments. The model will become an example for other ITIs across the country.

FFSC’s primary mission is to provide job-role specific training curriculums used in various Vocational Training programmes for schools, colleges, apprenticeships, RPLs, and other organisations. It helps in the recruitment of skilled workers for the sector.
So far, FFSC has developed over 25+ job roles since its inception with the support of various stakeholders.
Three new Qualifications were submitted to the NCVET in March 2022 which got approved in Apr’22.
The job roles are as follows:
1. Assistant Interior Designer- L4
2. Interior Designer- L5
3. Assistant Project Manager- L6
These Interior Designer job roles are in a progression to draughtsperson job role which were approved in Jan’22 by NCVET.

– The skill education courses can be taught from class VI to VIII as micro modules on different furniture & fittings courses
– The NSQF aligned FFSC job roles can be introduced in classes IX to XII.
– CBSE has also introduced Skills Hub for the affiliated schools. In this program, the school building or industry premises can be used for the skill education of youths.
– FFSC will design the courses as per the relevance of the school students and Skill Hubs.
FFSC has developed the Apprenticeship Curriculum for the Level 2- General Assistant- Furniture and Fittings Installation job role. The curriculum is focused on the On the-job training modules along with the required skill sets required for an individual to perform while working at the employer facilities.
Apprenticeships provide a much-needed window for consolidating unorganized modes of working and aiming for a better match between career goals and skill development outcomes. If carefully implemented, it has the potential to transform the unorganized or informal sector by providing reciprocal advantages to the employer, employee, and training organizations.

FFSC teams are committed to the development of curriculums and imparting training in the Apprenticeship modes for varied job roles for providing benefits to both employees and employers.
National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) is one of the premier institutes run by the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India.
NSTI role involves imparting training and updating the skills of Engineers / Supervisors / Technicians / Executives of Industrial personnel & faculties of educational institutions through courses of short duration conducted in modules and Tailor-made courses as per the specific needs of their Industries / Govt Estt. / PSUs / Technical Institutions.
FFSC and NSTI teams are engaged in the discussion on the Utilization of NSTI facilities to improvise the training structure based on the NSQC Approved job roles and current industry requirements.
The Major pointers of discussion involve:
A proposal for utilizing NSTI facilities has been shared with MSDE from FFSC, and discussions are ongoing for further developments.

Vocational education at younger age introduces the right skills in children. Exposure to vocational education aids students in determining the best professional route for them as they grow older. On March 3rd, 2022, FFSC had a meeting with Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE) to promote Furniture & Fittings courses in schools.
The Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE) is the world’s leading research and development institute for vocational education. It is a part of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which was founded in 1993 by India’s Ministry of Education (MoE).
FFSC will support schools with the trained teachers/ training of teachers, industry exposure, hands-on experience, and a curriculum that adheres to the National Skills Qualification Framework.

Skill Education is an important initiative by the Central Board of Secondary Education to make students self-reliant. The introduction of skill education at an early age can help students choose the right skills as per their interests. These vocational training programs allow students to explore various career choices and train them for specific industry work or any advanced education. These programs are designed to mold school students who aim to acquire training in work experience in different trades while continuing their studies. The skill education is provided along with their high school syllabus.
To work with the CBSE schools for introducing skill education, FFSC had a discussion on 24th February 2022 at the CBSE office. The major discussed points were:

Indian Plywood Industries Research & Training Institute (IPIRTI) is an autonomous body of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. It conducts various activities like research on all aspects of sawn timber production, plywood, and other allied engineered and reconstituted wood and lignocellulosic products, including improvement of materials, manufacturing processes, machines, appliances, etc.
It is also into training related to forest product utilization for the plywood industry and trade and allied industries. It imparts technical education/short-term training for undergraduate, postgraduate, and any other level in the technology of agro and forests products, adhesives and laminates, synthetic finishing, manufacturing machinery, panels, etc.
FFSC had a discussion with IPIRTI on 28th February 2022 for the collaboration. FFSC and IPIRTI will be working towards the feasibility of establishing a Centre of Excellence and scaling up the training activities in pan India.

These Interior Design Drafting job roles are at entry-level while the Lead Carpenter job role is at the senior level and is a progression to the Assistant Carpenter (L3) job role which was approved in Sept. 21 by NCVET.
