Empowering through Leadership Training: FRSC Mumbai

Leadership Training Program for FRSC Mumbai was held at Caple x FFSC Centre of Excellence (COE) on 13th January 2024.

Leadership Training Program, was designed to boost organizational efficiency and productivity in the dynamic furniture industry. The workshop session started with a series of activities for participants, followed by a session on People Management Excellence from Ms. Padma Gupta.

Participants were also given information about the Process Excellence by Ms. Rashmi S. A knowledge tour of the Caple x FFSC Centre of Excellence (COE) was given by Mr. Satyan Thukral.

Leadership Training Program for FRSC Delhi NCR and FRSC Jaipur

Day 1 Leadership Training Program for FRSC Jaipur and FRSC Delhi NCR was held at Panchshila club on 22nd December 2023.

Leadership Training Program was designed to boost organizational efficiency and productivity in the dynamic furniture industry. Day 1 session began with a series of activities for participants, followed by an interaction on Business Excellence from Deepak Gupta, who afterward addressed the importance of Operational Excellence in the furniture manufacturing business. Later on the information about the Digital Transformation of the Manufacturing Industry by Mr. Rajat Jain.

Day 2 of the Leadership Training Program brought more practical experience. The session began with the first visit to Magppie Wellness Kitchen where participants got an understanding of the process of lean manufacturing followed by them and later they got a tour of the shop floor experience. The participants had a detailed conversation with Mr. Deepak Gupta.

The afternoon session brought an exciting visit to Dorset Industries Private Limited. A state-of-the-art facility showcasing cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices. The participants were given a tour of production lines, witnessing the craftsmanship, and understanding the intricacies of the manufacturing process. Following this, the participants had a Q&A with Mr. Takshay Bansal.


29th FFSC Governing Council Meet at Delhi

29th Governing Council Meeting was held on December 12th at the iconic Taj Mahal, New Delhi. The event witnessed active participation and invaluable insights from all Governing Council members, fostering collaboration and innovation.

From discussions on the One Nation One Industry campaign to delving into the FFSC Regional Skill Chapter and Future Plans, including Action Plans & Activity-Based Consultation, it marked a pivotal moment for the Interiors, Furniture, and Allied Industries.

Supported by Greenply, this gathering marked a pivotal moment for the Interiors, Furniture, and allied Industries, promising growth and excellence in the journey ahead.

FFSC's Centre of Excellence (COE) in Hyderabad goes live!

FFSC's first Centre of Excellence is now officially open in NSTI Hyderabad, Telangana.

The Centre of Excellence (COE) will be the one-stop destination for Fresh Skilling, Reskilling, Upskilling, Multi-skilling programs, and much more.

FFSC acknowledges with gratitude the invaluable collective support of MSDE, Team NSTI Hyderabad, and industry partners HOMAG India Pvt. Ltd., Modular Furniture Manufacturers Association (MFMA) Hyderabad, and FFSC Regional Skill Chapter (Hyderabad) in making the COE model a reality.

FFSC participated in the PM Vishwakarma: Guru Ka Samman event organized by MSDE & NSDC at Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 24th November 2023.

Honorable Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at CSIR- Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar, presided over the event.

FFSC’s stall was installed to showcase our strength and how FFSC is bringing changes in Furniture, Interiors and allied sectors.

FFSC is working hard to bring changes to the existing workforce by upgrading their skills and knowledge and also providing modern tools and equipment to make them self-reliant.

Launch event of FFSC Center of Excellence on 24th November 2023, Hyderabad.

The Launch Event of the Centre of Excellence (COE) is schedule on 24th November 2023, at Hyderabad for the furniture and interior industry, a joint initiative of FFSC, Industry Partners, and the Government.

The Centre of Excellence aims to provide a platform for collaboration, innovation, and education among the stakeholders of the furniture and interior industry. The event will feature participation from key stakeholders from the Government and industry, along with a networking session.

FFSC Skill Pavilion at MATECIA 2023

FFSC Skill Pavilion had a great response from the stakeholders at the MATECIA 2023 exhibition held from 22nd to 24th September 2023. Skill Pavilion acted as a unified platform for industry, learners and skilling partners.

The following were the key achievements of the Skill Pavilion:

  • More than 90+ MoUs signed with industry partners who have become FFSC’s #SkillAmbassadors.
  • Skill Ambassadors from 17 states have joined the mission.
  • 5,000+ upskilling and re-skilling opportunities aggregated.

FFSC is thankful for the support from the industry partners and the organizers for making the Skill Pavilion possible.


PM Vishwakarma Exhibition at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka

The PM Vishwakarma Scheme took off on September 17th, 2023, coinciding with Vishwakarma Jayanti.

PM-Vishwakarma Yojana is a new scheme to bolster the livelihood prospects of traditional artisans and craftspeople aimed at providing financial support and skill enhancement to traditional artisans and craftspeople.

Our trade Carpenter & Boat maker, showcased at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, Delhi, caught the eye of none other than Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi himself!

It was an honour to have him visit our stall, where he interacted with the skilled artisans.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15 announced the launch of the Vishwakarma Yojana

On August 15, Honourable PM Narendra Modi announced the commencement of the Vishwakarma Yojana, which will initially invest between Rs 13,000 and Rs 15,000 crore on those with traditional talents over the course of the following month.

The PM Vishwakarma Scheme strives to incorporate artisans and craftspeople into the domestic and international value chains while demonstrating the quality, scope, and reach of their goods and services. These workers will become more economically empowered as a result, particularly those who come from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Communities, women, transgender people, and other underprivileged groups in society.

On August 5th, 2023, the CAPLE x FFSC Centre of Excellence in Vasai, Maharashtra, was formally inaugurated. The Centre of Excellence (COE) will be your one-stop shop for programmes in new skills, reskilling, upskilling, and multi-skilling, among other things.

Honourable Prime Minister inaugurates the ‘Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam’ at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi

On 29th July 2023, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in Delhi. The event coincided with the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020.

The Prime Minister released the first installment of funds under the PM SHRI Scheme. These schools were intended to nurture students in a way that they become engaged, productive, and contributing citizens for building an equitable, inclusive, and plural society, as envisaged by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Prime Minister also released education and skill curriculum books translated into 12 Indian languages.

Guided by the vision of the Prime Minister, NEP 2020 was launched with a view to groom the youth and prepare them for leading the country in Amrit Kaal. It aimed to prepare them for meeting the challenges of the future while keeping them grounded in basic human values. During the three years of its implementation, the policy brought radical transformation in the realms of school, higher, and skill education.

The Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam included sixteen sessions, in which discussions were held on themes including Access to Quality Education and Governance, Equitable and Inclusive Education, Issues of Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups, National Institute Ranking Framework, Indian knowledge System, Internationalisation of Education, among others.


FFSC’s 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and 8th Foundation Day Celebration on 15th July 2023 in Gurugram

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of FFSC was held on 15th July 2023 at the Hotel Radisson, Gurugram.

This year has been remarkable for FFSC, as the council has made significant progress in setting up a strong skilling ecosystem for the Interiors, Furniture, and allied industries in India. FFSC has seen an 85% increase in membership, a testament to the growing support for #SkillIndiaMission, and acceptance of the council’s initiatives.

Change in Leadership

The 8th AGM saw a change in the office bearers of FFSC with the following changes.

  • New Chairperson: Mr. Rajesh Mittal, Greenply Industries Limited
  • New Co-Chairperson: Mr. Venkataraman Gorti, HOMAG India Pvt. Ltd.

8th Foundation Day Celebration Event:

FFSC completed 8 years of operations on 10th July 2023, and to commemorate the occasion, an event was organized in the presence of its Industry Partners, Academia, Skilling Partners, and Skill Stars. The central theme for the event was to unleash the #PowerofSkills through the #PowerofCollaboration. FFSC showcased its target group-focused services and initiatives throughout the event with unique engaging sessions.

  • Industry Insights: ‘Growth of Indian Furniture Industry & Opportunities’ From traditional craft to modern-age technology, The Indian Furniture Industry has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years. The participants had the opportunity to hear from an industry expert who sheds light on this growth and the abundant opportunities.

  • Skilling Insights: ‘Best Practices with Skilling as a Strategy for Industry's Growth’ Skilling can serve as a strategic catalyst for the growth and success of industries and one sector which has leveraged this to become the benchmark is the Automotive sector. Mr. Arindham Lehri, CEO of Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC), shared invaluable insights into how Best practices with Skilling can serve as a Strategy for Industry’s Growth.

2. Key Initiatives Launch

  • FFSC Regional Skill Chapters
    FFSC is setting up regional skill chapters across the country to provide skilling solutions to the three main stakeholders in terms of Industry Partners, Skilling Partners and Learners. The list of shortlisted regional chapters was announced along with the criteria for selecting these particular regions for the coming years. Flagbearers were announced for each chapter who will drive the initiatives forward and work towards setting up a sustainable skill ecosystem in each region.
  • ‘One Nation, One Industry’ Campaign
    The #PowerOfCollaboration has been the key driving force in FFSC’s journey. Through the ‘One Nation, One Industry’ campaign, a series of events i.e. industry meets, academic partner meets, learner meets, exhibitions, and more, will be organised, creating a platform for fostering knowledge sharing, networking, and exchanging ideas. FFSC invited industry partners who are willing to collaborate for the campaign.

3. Fireside Chat on the ‘Power of Collaboration’

FFSC strongly believes in unleashing the #PowerOfSkills; the key is the #PowerOfCollaboration. FFSC has successfully created a brand-agnostic platform where companies from various sub-sectors have come together to stand as One Nation, One Industry, and are working towards a common goal of Industry growth through Skill Development. Delving deeper into the power of collaboration, a thought-provoking Fire Chat session was moderated by Mr Deepak Gupta, Managing Director, Bracecorp Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The true spirit of #PowerOfCollaboration is being highlighted through the panelists of this Fireside Chat.

4. Special Recognition: Mr. Narsi Kularia

Mr. Narsi Kularia has been a key inspirational figure in the furniture industry through his dedication and implementation of massive interior projects.

During his tenure as the Chairperson of FFSC, his organisation Narsi Group has participated in the major key initiatives of FFSC and has been a benchmark for the other industry players to follow in their footsteps.

The current Chairperson, Mr. Rajesh Mittal felicitated Mr. Kularia for his contribution towards FFSC and the skilling ecosystem.

These centres shall aid in the development of more #SkillingPartners under FFSC’s Beginner & Apprenticeship Academy Models.

5. Workshop: ‘Better Together’ & ‘Back to Basics’ Activity

  • ‘Back to Basics’ Activity
    Ms Neetii Maacker, a strategist who has been a part of the furniture industry for more than 25 yrs. and certified design thinking coach conducted the ‘Back to Basics’ activity. Through her activity, she took the participants on a journey to rediscover the fundamental principles and techniques that form the foundation of the sector and the importance of having Standard Operating Procedures in place.
  • Workshop: ‘Better Together’
    Ms. Neeti back also conducted an insightful workshop with the theme ‘Better Together’. The workshop encouraged the participants to form teams and take part in fun challenges that highlighted the power of effective collaboration. The workshop provided a sample for the problem-solving discussions which have been envisioned as part of the Regional Skill Chapter meetings.

    FFSC is thankful to the #SkillAmbassadors, whose unwavering belief in the #PowerOfSkills has propelled its success. With their dedication and support, FFSC has witnessed remarkable growth from 76 to 587+ Skill Ambassadors across India.
    FFSC felicitated 15 such #SkillAmbassadors during the event for their invaluable contribution.
  • Power of Collaboration Partners
    FFSC had partnered for the flagship events for the upcoming year like the India Kitchen Congress 2024 and IndiaWood 2024.
    MoUs were signed with NuernbergMesse India Pvt. Ltd. for the Skill Pavilion set up in IndiaWood 2024 exhibition and Bracecorp Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for FFSC’s participation in the India Kitchen Congress 2024.

Ozone sets up its ‘Ozone Skills Academy’

The ‘Ozone Skills Academy’ has been set up by FFSC’s member Ozone Overseas in New Delhi. The academy would offer both training & testing facilities.

Workshops such as skill orientation are suggested initially, and later, NCVET-approved programs, which will get candidates a national-level certificate, would be started.

Indian Kitchen Congress Awards 2023 – Delhi

The 9th India Kitchen Congress Awards recognised the persons and organisations that are shaping the Indian modular kitchen industry with their creativity, excellence, and service mindset.

The award recognised corporates (enterprises/companies/organisations) for their contribution to the development of the skill ecosystem for the Interiors, Furniture & Allied industry.

The following awards were given under the ‘Skill Catalyst’ category in IKC 2023:

FFSC's 'Skill Pavilion' is the key highlight of DelhiWood 2023

FFSC’s Skill Pavilion was a key feature of the Delhiwood 2023 exhibition. From March 2-5, the pavilion provided solutions for a skilled workforce for woodworking and furniture-related industries.

The following were the key achievements of the Skill Pavilion:

  • More than 160 MoUs signed with industry partners who have become FFSC’s #SkillAmbassadors. These include 130+ manufacturers and 20+ designers and enablers.
  • Industry partners from 23 states and 3 Union territories, including international visitors from Bhutan, Russia and Italy, showed interest in working with FFSC and supporting the Skill India initiative.
  • 7,000+ upskilling and re-skilling opportunities created.
  • 700+ apprenticeship potential captured.
  • More than 60 companies confirmed interest in setting up skill academies.
  • More than 40 industries expressed interest in improving the quality of instruction so that learners could be introduced to new technologies.

FFSC signed MOU with NSTI Bengaluru for its 2nd FFSC Center of Excellence. The Center of Excellence would provide short-term courses in the furniture and fitting sector to offer 100% employment opportunities. Special Thanks to Mr. Satyan Thukral (FFSC Executive member) & Team Caple for extending their support for setting up the COE.

Key features of FFSC’s Centre of Excellence (COE) at NSTI Bengaluru:

  1. The COE shall play multiple roles in Research & Development Unit, Counselling Cell, Skill Testing Centre, International Collaboration unit, a Support system to other Skilling Partners, Training Centre, World Skills Academy, Production Assistance Centre, etc.
  2. The COE shall be run and managed by FFSC with in-house Master Trainers, workshop managers, and/or with support and resources from Industry Partners.
  3. The COE would have an R&D unit for the creation of appropriate Qualifications, Training Delivery Programs, and Content Development for various Qualifications.
  4. The COE shall offer various Design-Build-Install related training programs to Skill, Re-skill, Up-skill, and Multi-skill learners, both existing workforce and fresher which would include Furniture & Interior Designing, Furniture Workshop & Machine Shop Related – Joiners, Cabinet Makers, Machine Operators, Assemblers, Surface Finishers, Upholsterers, etc., Furniture Workshop & Machine Shop Related – Joiner, Cabinet Makers, Machine Operators, Assemblers, Surface Finishers, Upholsterers, etc.


Hindustan Ki Shaan Awards for industry carpenters and contractors organized by Greenply

Greenply Industries Ltd has organised Hindustan Ki Shaan Awards for industry carpenters and contractors. Mr Rajesh Mittal, CMD, Greenply expressed his joy about hosting this event. “This is an attempt of Greenply to recognize efforts of these carpenters and contractors in glorifying the beauty of Indian home & spaces”.

Attended by 140+ artists from across the country, the ceremony saw the facilitation of 4 zonal winners, and the pan-India national winner, picked from thousands of entries. A lively panel discussion, thrilling performances, networking sessions and a much-awaited facilitation ceremony, made the gala night, a memorable one.

FFSC’s Iconic Skill Pavilion Comes to Delhi wood 2023

FFSC’s iconic Skill Pavilion was a key feature of the Delhiwood 2023 exhibition. From March 2-5, the pavilion provided solutions for a skilled workforce for woodworking and furniture-related industries.

The Skill Pavilion was launched in 2020 as a unified platform to connect industry, professionals, students and institutions. At the pavilion, FFSC team engaged with Industry Partners to guide them about approaches to skilling and how they can avail of benefits offered by the government through the Skill India program. They also counsel professionals about careers in woodworking, and the growth path they can achieve through appropriate training.

Our #SkillStars were in action at the Skill Academy section, implementing the test projects and showcasing the power of skills.

The following were the key achievements of the Skill Pavilion:

Orientation for the 35 New Industry Members

Furniture and Fittings Skill Council (FFSC) is organizing an "Orientation Session", for the new industry members on Wednesday, 18th January 2023 from 11 am – 12 pm, via Microsoft Teams.

The orientation session is a part of the new structured onboarding by FFSC for the new member companies.

The purpose of the session was to make the members and their teams from various backgrounds i.e. Technical, HR, Marketing, etc. to be aware of FFSC & the Skilling Ecosystem. The session was also an introduction to the various teams at FFSC who shall be presenting their respective verticals.

This would help the new members make the most of the association with FFSC and also to carry forward the word in the right direction, in the right manner.

26th Governing Council meeting of FFSC, Narsi & Associates, Mumbai, Maharashtra

The Governing Council of FFSC is the elected body which decides the operational and governance-related aspects of FFSC. The 26 th Governing Council meeting was held on 22nd December 2022 at Narsi & Associates, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The key discussion held during the meeting:

  • FFSC’s Regional Skill Chapters – Pilot Projects and ongoing programs
  • ‘One Nation, One Industry’ Campaign – Scaling up activities across the country
  • Skill Academies – guidelines for the industry to set up academies on a sustainable model
  • Training Projects – Skill Conscious Employer Program and experience of the employers who have benefitted

The industry leaders drive the council on a set mission by being part of the General Body and the Governing Council. Mr. Venkataraman Gorti, Managing Director & Country Head, HOMAG India is a part of the Governing Council and also a member of the Board of Standards (BoS) sub-committee, which leads the development of National Occupational Standards (NOS).

NCVET extended their congratulation to FFSC Chairman Mr. Narsi Kularia for the achievement of certifying 5k+ carpenters and his vision to certify more than 50K+ in the upcoming year.
These certified carpenters are a vital resource in the production of traditional crafts as well as modern, smart & versatile furniture as per the demand of various users.

25th Governing Council meeting of FFSC

The 25th Governing Council meeting of FFSC was held on 14th October 2022 via online mode.
The key points for discussion were regarding the announcement of the Steering Committee of FFSC. The revised sub-committee structure for FFSC was also announced, and nominations were received from the executive members.
A detailed Campaign for Mission 2025 was also presented to the members. The sub-committee meetings will now be aligned to take forward the action items for each key function.


Way Forward to Mission 2025 with New Governing Council in place

At its 7th Annual General Meeting, held on September 16, 2022 in New Delhi, the Furniture & Fittings Skill Council (FFSC) elected a new governing council.
Mr. Narsi Kularia, Managing Director of Narsi Group, has been elected as Chairman, Mr. Rajesh Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Greenply Industries Ltd., as Co- Chairman, and Mr. Saurabh Jain, Managing Director of Decora Kitchen Interiors Pvt. Ltd., as Treasurer, along with 12 other industry leaders as Executive Members.
The Governing Council will have a tenure of two-years. FFSC is moving forward with Mission 2025 with the new team.


Culmination Event of Furniture Skills Global Conclave

The culmination ceremony marked the completion of its year-long Furniture Skills Global Conclave (FSGC), which was launched in September 2021 as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ campaign.
The objective of the conclave was to build awareness about skill-based opportunities in interiors, furniture and allied industries. Dedicated to youth and future skills, through FSGC, the aim was to create awareness about Skill-based opportunities in the Interiors, Furniture & Allied industries.
Under the FSGC banner, over 50+ events (Seminars, Webinars, Workshops, Industry Meets, Exhibitions, Skill Competitions, etc.) were organized, over 10000+ people participated, over 300+ new Industry Partners joined the mission, 5000+ opportunities were created, and have earmarked 23 FFSC Regional Skill Chapters. The larger goal of FSGC was to lay a strong foundation for Mission 2025, wherein FFSC has committed to skill, reskill and upskill 5,00,000 aspirants for various job opportunities.
